An interesting rumour coming out of Chechyna this week - Mosnews reports that notorious terrorist leader Shamil Basayev is thought to be undergoing medical treatment in an unknown European country. Apparently he made his escape via Turkey, and hasn’t actually been seen in Chechnya since September 2003.
No other details at this time, although I’m somewhat sceptical. The source is Taus Dzhabrailov, the head of pro-Russian Chechen State Council.
