Turkmenistan leader President Niyazov, the self-styled Turkmenbashi has announced his decision to close every hospital outside of the capital, Ashgabat.
The order, announced by a government spokesman, is part of the president’s radical health care policies.
Thousands of medical workers have already been sacked under the plan.
"Why do we need such hospitals?" he said. "If people are ill, they can come to Ashgabat."
The Argus asks the next question:
So, at exactly what point does life in North Korea become better than life in Turkmensitan?
You really couldn’t make this stuff up. It’s gotten to the point that even Russia, friend of oddballs everywhere, is getting nervous about its relationship with Turkmenistan. Let’s just hope that Turkmenbashi’s long and glorious reign comes to a very rapid end - preferably as the result of a stubbed toe on a country walk.
