One of the best things about being rich in Russia today is that you get to spend your money ostentatiously. So, what objects of desire are rich Russians lavishing their cash on in 2005? Well, according to RIA Novosti, the must have purchases of this year include yachts, real estate (boring!) and vintage cars:
Demand for the new passion of the Russian wealthy, vintage cars, is unprecedented. A professional bureau, the only place in Eastern Europe which sells and services Chromov Collection vintage cars, opened in Russia in 2003. Nikita Kiselyov, a representative of the bureau, said demand for postwar classics exceeded supply, even though such cars cost between $130,000 and $600,000. There are 200-400 potential buyers every four months in this segment alone.
I bet Kiselyov was jumping around his showroom shouting for joy when he saw Presidents Bush and Putin driving around in a 1956 Volga the other day.
