ABC has the scoop that Shamil Basayev is a terrorist. The very man himself admitted what we already knew in an interview broadcast yesterday on Nightline.
"Ok, so I’m a terrorist, but what would you call them (the Russians)?
"If they are the keepers of constitutional order, if they are anti-terrorists then I spit on all these agreements and nice words," he said.
[This quote came from that old standby, the BBC, because oddly I couldn’t find a report on ABC].
Russia is, as you would imagine, indignant that ABC has given airtime to Basayev.
And, to think, that nice Mr Basayev was on tv in the UK just months ago wearing a t-shirt plastered with the proud logo: "ANTI-TERROR".

Andrew- I am very curious to hear you comment more on the Chechnya situation. I myself believe the acts of these terrorists are the most gruesome and hideous we have witnessed. I would love to hear your take on the whole situation.

Jim - pretty much everything I’ve written about Chechnya this year can be found in the Chechnya category archive. I have to admit, Chechnya’s fallen off my radar a little recently, but maybe I’ll look into it some more over the coming weeks.
