A few interesting news stories from today that I don’t have time to comment on:
- Looks like Russians are no longer in vogue in the NHL. For the first time in 15 years no Russian has been picked in either the first or second round of the draft.
- The Orthodox church has launched its own privately-funded tv channel named Spas (Saviour).
- Former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic may serve his jail term for war crimes in Russia. Both the UK and US are said to have agreed to the plan, suject to confirming that Russia won’t simply release him on health grounds. Rumour is that Milosevic also approves, and won’t appeal any conviction if he is sent to Moscow.
- Four Russian children were beaten in Warsaw on Sunday by 15 Polish teenagers. The Russian Foreign Ministry believes the beatings are related to an ongoing series of (largely petty) disputes between the two countries and I’m inclined to agree with them.
