The Russian Dilettante is ruminating on the differences between American and Russian squirrels. Chipmunks get a look in, too…
Being an ignoramus in biology ("what do you mean, there are different kinds of trees?"), I used to think American chipmunks were baby squirrels. That fit my picture of the worlds quite well: Russian chipmunks live in Siberia, where they pester geologists, begging for sweet condensed milk (sguschonka), so no way can these exotic lovelies be seen side by side with rather prosaic squirrels.
If words just aren’t your thing, Alexei has a picture of a rather cute Moscow squirrel. And a toad. No chipmunks, though.

What a nice surprise. I started to post my own “squirrel blogging” every Monday on my website, partly as a twist on the cat and orchid blogging seen on other prominent weblogs, but mostly because I like squirrels. Minnesota is overrun with them.
Autumn is quickly approaching, so that means the local squirrels are foraging for the winter. Some of the tougher ones just chase down unsuspecting humans and steal their snack chips.
Anyway, feel free to visit my site and have a look at the Minnesota squirrels.
