Pushkin’s Descendants granted Russian citizenship

by Andy on September 25, 2005

According to RIA Novosti, two of the great poet’s descendents are now fully paid up Russian citizens:

The descendants, Alexander Pushkin and Marie-Madeleine Durnovo-Pushkin, were born in Belgium in 1942 and in France in 1943 respectively.

They’re both still living in Belgium, I gather, but the story doesn’t mention whether or not they actually wanted Russian citizenship… (from what I recall, newly minted Russian citizens have to renounce citizenship of any other country).

Renuncation of the citizenship is required only when applying for citizenship. Nothing special should be done when Russian citizenship is granted(not acquired through naturalization).
