Would you believe that the largest single investor in Russia so far this year is Holland?
Direct investment to Russia from the Netherlands in the first quarter of this year hit $7.76 billion, the Russian agriculture minister said Wednesday.
The majority of this investment is, as you’d imagine, in the energy sector, (Royal Dutch Shell are investing heavily in Sakhalin, as I’m sure Tim knows), but agricultural trade is also a big player.

its not really the dutch who are investing, netherlands have a quite favorable holding tax legislation( Bono’s U2 Holding ist registered there for example- taxes there are even lower than in Ireland- so he can spend more money on helping Africa…), thus most of these investement are made by russian native corporations registered there, the same for Cyprus and Luxemburg

Yes, it seems most of the investment into Russia is currently made by Russians.
Repeat: most of the investment into Russia is currently made by Russians.
Wasn’t it just a few years ago that Russian’s couldn’t get fast enough out of Russia? Anybody else thinks this should tell us something about Russia’s economy you won’t read in the Economist?
