Russian military uniforms to get makeover

by Andy on June 14, 2007

Russian Army UniformOf all the things about the Russian military that need modernising, I’m not sure this is the most pressing:

According to Gen. Isakov, the new uniforms are being designed with active participation of the heraldry department and leading Russian fashion designers including Valentin Yudashkin. The project is under the supervision of the Central Research Institute of Sewing Industry.

Watch out - before you know it, Miss Russian Army will be upstaged by Mr Russian Army…

In a back to the future way, I hope the new unis will incorporate aspects of Russia’s pre-1917 military wear.

Offhand, I’d like to see the St. George’s Cross reintroduced. Doesn’t Britain still have a St. Andrew’s Cross?

An Russian Imperial white blue and red bulls eye logo for the air force.

Lemme think a bit on the unis.

As long as they decrease the size of their ridiculously large hats to something like the caps the Russian infantry had during WWI.

A connoisseur.

Some migiht recall the 1987 70th anniversary parade in Moscow, which featured elements of the Soviet army sporting a throwback look of what that army wore in its early years. It included a long cap with the red star. That cap was in the process of being issued for the Imperial Army. WW I and the Russian Civil War prevented that from happening.

I like to se “rubaha” reintroduced, it is a very sensible outerwear, “Sapogi” and “kozirka” “Shinel” is out, and should be replaced by a shorter version for comfort of modern transport
