Thanks, Andy. We’re honored and flattered to have your support. I hope my site offers useful content for everybody out there across the practically infinite spectrum of opinion on Russia.

    Best regards,
    Bob Amsterdam

I just wanted to say it’s good to see Robert Amsterdam up there. Sadly, I must vote for my Alma Mater, European Tribune, But I’m totally addicted to Amsterdam’s blog. I’m not in the Putin is an evil dictator and Khodorkovsky is a persecuted innocent camp; I’m rather ambivalent about the entire affair. But it is an *amazingly* informative blog. I don’t know where he gets the time to do it all. Is Misha paying you to blog, Bob? (I kid.) Best of luck.

Thanks for the compliment, poemless. I’m also not in the “Putin is evil” camp either, despite my criticism of policy. In regards to Khodorkovsky, I don’t expect to convince the world to see it as I do, but rather simply recognize that Russia has broken the law in his trial. We just want fair courts.

The whole blogging thing is definitely my own prerogative - a symptom of my unhealthy obsession with news and global politics and business.

Keep up the great work over at Euro Trib!

I’m a bit confused about the classification as a European Blog (non-UK). I suppose that was based on the topic of Russia.

Even though Mr. Amsterdam and his team write well, I wouldn’t consider him among the best blogs on Russia.

In any case, it is nice to see that he was nominated and hope it provokes interest in Russian related topics.

  5. Michael Averko Says:

I did like the citation at his blog of Ann Applebaum, who noted (as did a recent Russia Profile article) that Russians aren’t enthusiastic about honoring the legacy of the October Revolution.

This conflicts with the return to the USSR claim being hustled by some.

Another related issue pertains to how Russians generally view Stalin (to be explained in greater detail in the not too distant future).

The Pipes comeback being that it’s Russia and not the Soviet legacy which is bad.
