Yep, it’s that time of the week again.  The latest edition of the Carnival of the Revolutions is up at Coming Anarchy.

(The revolutions in question, of course, are not designed to lead to anarchy).

This week’s Carnival of the Revolutions is up, kindly hosted by Katy at Armenian blog Blogrel.  As you’d expect, Russia, Belarus and Central Asia all get plenty of coverage.

The Carnival post is spread over three pages, which caught me out at first.  For people as dense as me, a hint – use the little numbers at the bottom right of the page to navigate.

This week’s Carnival of the Revolutions is up at Publius Pundit.  Robert ‘the one, the only, the sexy’* Mayer has excelled himself yet again with this week’s roundup of democracy-related news.

*Robert has just become the proud owner of a magical mirror.

I’m glad you’re catching on! I almost didn’t see that downsized text because my eyes are so horrible. But then again that’s probably why I’m able to unabashedly stroke that huge ego over my looks too.

The July 4th edition of Carnival of the Revolutions is up at Registan.net

Apparently July 4th is hailed by many as one of the greatest democratic revolutions of them all.  True blue Brit that I am, all I can say is: While democracy is all very well, there is surely no nobler calling for mankind than to drink magnificent but heavily taxed tea British tea.

The submission deadline is each Sunday evening, but the exact deadline really up to the host each week. Any blogger can submit a post on the rapid flurry of events we see each week, or on a broader theoretical idea. The criteria are fairly broad, but inclusion of your submission is ultimately up to the host.

Will Franklin at WILLisms.com and Robert Mayer at publispundit, com took a brave stand!… Quite a intense situation for Will to be subjected to that type of treatment!… Robert’s comments from Mojtaba Aghamohammdi were also quite intense!…BUT… The most horrific thing is the way the Iranian Regime continues the mascarade of a free and fair election!…WILLisms.com has it all on video; Yet they continue denying what they did to deny votes from anti-Iranian terrorist Regime!…Take a look at the comments from Mojitaba Aghamohammdi!… He claims he was the one who helped host this election!

This may sound like a dumb question, but why do you call this a “carnival”?

Alexei June 21, 2005 at 7:28 am

Per Bakhtin, I suppose. ;-)

Andy June 21, 2005 at 4:20 pm

Jennifer, I’m not entirely sure why we call it a carnival. I’ve always assumed it’s because every week the ‘carnival’ ups sticks and finds a new blog to call home, but if anyone else knows different…

Onnik Krikorian June 21, 2005 at 11:13 pm

“Elections are taking place in the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, which over which Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a war in the early 1990s. Azerbaijan, which still claims sovereignty over the enclave called the election illegitimate. Sadly, I couldn’t find any bloggers covering this story either, so we have to say thanks once again to BBC News for the scoop.”

Not true. I’ve been blogging a little about it at:

Cheers,

Gateway Pundit hosts the latest edition of the Carnival of the Revolutions, as it enters its sixth week of compiling all the latest news of democractic movements from around the globe.

Update:  I clean forgot – I’ll be hosting next week’s carnival here at Siberian Light.

If you’d like to submit anything for inclusion into the carnival you can either email me, or use this handy web submission form.  The submission deadline is Sunday evening but, as I’m based in the UK, that means 10pm British Standard Time (or 5pm Eastern for those of you across the pond).

Carnival of the Revolutions

This week’s Carnival of the Revolutions is up at WILLisms.com.  Check it out for all the latest news about the spread of democracy around the world.  In Will’s own words…

Not all of the news is great. Some is even depressing. But we’re here to tell the stories of the democratic reformers around the world, struggling for free and fair elections and/or other basic rights inherent to any democracy. We are conservatives, we are liberals, we are Democrats, we are Republicans, and we are everything in between.

We share one powerful goal, however: the advance of liberty in the world.

Next week’s carnival will be hosted by Nathan of Registan.net, so if there’s a story you’ve seen or written that you’d like to tell the world about, contact Nathan from this page.

Carnival of the Revolutions

by Andy on May 9, 2005

The Carnival of the Revolutions has been revived!  Gateway Pundit hosts the first installment, covering democracitic revolutions and democratic opposition movements worldwide.

Why the need for a Carnival of Revolutions.  Well, as Gateway Pundit puts it:

Democratic reformers living in "fear societies" don’t necessarily need guns or large wads of cash to succeed. They just need:

- people to "tell their story"
- people to "hear their story"
- people to "know their story", and
- people to "feel their story"

This week’s carnival has a particular focus on Burma, but also extensive coverage of the former Soviet Union.

Next week’s Carnival will be hosted here, at Siberian Light.  If on your travels this week you see anything you’d like me to cover, drop me an email (andy AT siberianlight DOT net) or leave a quick note in the comments section below.  I’m especially interested in stories from outside my normal beat, the post-Soviet world.  I’ll be posting the next carnival late Sunday evening, UK time.

So, til next Monday, remember that Gateway Pundit is where to go for your Carnivaling fix.

“Fear societies” sounds a lot like the term Natan Sharansky used in his book “The Case for Democracy”, which has to do with how to establish a democratic society, and what constitutes one. You should read it if you are interested.

Zsa Zsa May 9, 2005 at 4:37 pm

I hope more people will be able to hear, see, and feel what other societies are going through!…I believe that the blogs are bringing excellent opportunities for this to be accomplished! I feel like the main stream media is a waste of time! I go to the blogs for my news. The blogs get actual experiences and truth!…I found you from WILLisms.com! It is one of those blogs I get most of my news from…Our world is filled with many people. It is my hope these people are mostly good! A few bad ones can upset the entire process for a while…BUT it doesn’t have to remain that way as long as people really want freedom and democracy!

There’s an interesting article in today’s Gulf News on freedom of the press in the UAE.
