He's a bit saggy, but on the BBC photograph you can almost see a six-pack underneath. Putin's certainly got the semiotics of dress (or lack of it) right in this one. Mao may have been the first to make a photo-op of him in various states of undress in his annual promotion of swimming in the Yangzi (yuck). But I see that there's been a trend in the recent press to catch world leaders or would be leaders in their swimming trunks.ie., Sarkozy vacationing in the U.S., and Royale's infamous bikini shot.
