Putin’s Game – Radio Broadcast

by Andy on April 22, 2005

Via The Volodymyr Campaign I’ve just found out that BBC Radio 4 is broadcasting a two-part programme called Putin’s Game.  Here’s the listings info:

New series. 1/2. President Putin was swept to power in 2000 as a strong man who could reassert the Kremlin’s power at home and abroad. After a decade of disintegration and the ever more embarrassing spectacle of Boris Yeltsin on the world stage, most Russians were eager for change. In Spring 2005 the Kremlin is assailed by popular revolt, protracted and spreading war, ever louder foreign criticism, and revolution on its borders. Lucy Ash investigates how effective the former KGB colonel has been in tackling his country’s problems, and why Russia’s neighbours are increasingly turning their backs on her.

I haven’t had the chance to listen to it yet, but if you’d like to, you can find the link on this BBC page.  The first part is available now, and it will presumably be replaced by part two just after it is broadcast next Thursday
