Siberian Light nominated as Best European Blog

by Andy on January 6, 2009

I’ve just noticed that Siberian Light is a finalist in the European category of the 2008 Weblog Awards.

The 2008 Weblog Awards

The Weblog Awards are (I’m reliably informed) the world’s biggest blog awards, so to reach the final in the European category is pretty big honour. It’s really encouraging to be noticed, and to be put in the same bracket as 9 other great European blogs.

Having said that, there are plenty of other great blogs about Russia, and I’m not convinced that the organisers haven’t made a terrible mistake picking Siberian Light, instead of someone like Russia Blog, Robert Amsterdam or Sean’s Russia Blog – let alone any of the other top quality Russia Blogs out there.

Anyway, if you’ve enjoyed reading Siberian Light, I’d really appreciate it if you’d pop over and vote for me. Lord knows, I need the votes – Siberian Light is 10th out of 10 finalists at the moment!

Then, once you’re done voting, check out all the other great European blogs.

PS – Did I mention that you can vote once every 24 hours (hint, hint!).

The timing of this news goes well with SL, relative to the Old Calender Christmas Eve.

Congratulations, Andy. I voted for you. And it seems my contribution means you’ve overtaken Iceland Eyes to become 9th.

But for me to vote everyday, you’d have to write new posts every day! :)

Congratulations Andy, great stuff. Stop being so modest – there are a lot of blogs out there and being in the top ten happens for a reason.

Am off to vote now. C Rozhestvom to all Russians everywhere today!:-)

I voted three times for you already. But you are way way behind. In any event, those polls and awards are gimmicky and bogus, and they should not have any significance. After all, sites that do care about it can rather easily organize a campaign resulting in many more votes. It has very little to do with merit. I guess it’s nice to claim to be a winner, but people only come back to sites to interest them–regardless of the votes.
