The Russian Orthodox Church has just announced it’s latest saint, and it’s not who you’d think…
Admiral Fyodor Ushakov who took part in Russia’s wars against Turkey and Napoleon’s France has been named by the Orthodox church as the patron saint of Russia’s nuclear long-distance bombers.
[...]Russian Patriarch Alexii II carried the admiral’s reliquary and icon into the Moscow chapel of the Russian Air Force’s 37th Air Army in Moscow, AFP reported.
“I am sure he will become your intermediary as you fulfil your responsible duties to the fatherland in the long-range air force,” the patriarch told the troops. “His strong faith helped Saint Fyodor Ushakov in all his battles,” he said, adding that the admiral had never lost any battle.
Because, you know, if you’re flying a nuclear bomber, you need a little extra protection from some guy who used to sail boats for a living.
